Must Read: Love Diary

I woke up so late. It was already 8 in the morning. I was late for work. I guess the whole magical weekend I had last week has disappeared, leaving me with a boring week.

At work, I couldn’t focus on anything.
I haven’t heard from Samantha.

No call. No message.

I can’t blame her though. Her father is in the hospital and she has an irritating fiancé.

Sometimes I feel her pain; I didn’t know what is happening over there.

I don’t want to call her. I don’t want to look like I’m disturbing her. I may be a distraction to her. She needs to focus and attend to her sick father.

Maybe she has forgotten me.

She was all I was thinking about.

After work, I got a call from Timothy. He invited me and Moses to his house. Feeling bored and frustrated and with nothing to do, I drove downtown to Ikoyi, where Tim is staying.

The huge evening Lagos traffic turned a 10 minutes cruise into a one hour journey.

“Chris, what took you so long?” Moses asked me as I sat down on the soft sofa in the living room.

I told them all that had happened.

“You mean she’s gone?” asked Timothy.

“I don’t know what to think or what to believe.”

“Guy, I don’t think she will call. She has gone back to her country. She has woken up.

You have to wake up too dude,” said Moses.

This guy sef.His attitude is annoying.

“Guy, we have a lot of hot chicks in this town.

You are looking so down and lonely. We can arrange one for you.” Tim said with a look of concern.

“Don’t. I don’t need any hot chick.”

“Then what do you want?” Moses asked.

“Mos, take it easy on him. The guy is grieving.

Soon he will go through the acceptance stage and we will get our friend back,” Tim said.

He was smiling as he patted me on the shoulder.

Tim brought Gulder drinks. They collected one each. Tim offered me one, I rejected.

I picked up the bottled water at the table and downed it in less than a minute.

It was all boring talk to me after that.

I sat there for the next one hour going through the motions. I went back to my house around 8.
For three days I didn’t hear from Samantha.

I felt like I should call her but I didn’t know the number she will be using out there. It is 10th February and I feel like this year’s valentine will be my worst of them all. I have never celebrated valentine day with anyone special anyway.

It is Wednesday morning on the 10th. I was brushing my teeth. I don’t want to go to work late again.

Suddenly my phone jangled beside the sink where I placed it.

Who is calling me at this time of the day?

I looked at the number, I didn’t recognize it.

I picked the called anyway.

“Hello,” I said.

“It’s me.” The voice was very low and soft.

Samantha.

I recognized it at once and all the emotions that I have suffered so much to bury deep inside my heart came rushing up.
