••BAGHDAH••

By 6.15pm, Pedro jolted up when an alarm blasted out, he smiled at Fataveli who was admiring a black pistol, Xavier’s favourite weapon. The bags have been emptied, a latex swim suit and oxygen tank with a back pack hung on the wall. Xavier got up and began dressing up.

His mind flashed back to what he read earlier about the arms dealer, the man was married with a wife and three teenage daughters. He really had to be careful.

“There is a water resistance gps device and wireless communication device inside your bag, with weapons and equipment you might need, just put the transmitter on when you get into the compound so that I may know your whereabouts. C’mon kid, let’s get out of here” Fataveli instructed as Xavier listened patiently.

They walked out together, large mosque speakers were blasting out calls for prayers, they walked behind the stall and entered a rickety lorry which moved swiftly despite its looks, passing by playing children, women covered up revealing only their eyes and weary looking traders coming back after the day’s sales.

By 7pm, they were in Baghdad they avoided several military checkpoints and safely arrived at the port of River Tigris, the fishermen were already calling it a day but one of them coupled with his heavy charges agreed to take Xavier skin dipping.

Fataveli waved as they pulled into the river, Xavier pulled out his GPS and watched as it pointed out the spot he was to dive in. When they reach the spot, he rummaged in his bag like he was looking for money to pay the greedy fisherman, instead two bullets to the man’s forehead sent him crashing into the water. He was gonna need the boat when he got back, he put off the ignition and inspected his surroundings. Finally he placed his face mask and breathing pipe before jumping into the warm water.

The GPS markings he followed directed in to an underwater pipe which he followed till he got to a free spot which was directly under a water fall, he could see the water splashing high up in the sky and down again causing ripples in the water.

The Crimson moon half shown casting a dull shadow in its surroundings, a head slightly pulled out of the water, bright head lights flashed over the water and around the large compound which packed seven cars, some of them armoured and camouflaged, others utility vehicles and a black audi convertible. Armed guards walked across the compound, walky-takies were tucked to their belts to report any suspicious activities, they all held Ak-47 rifles while jack knives were strapped to their belts. Xavier studied their movements for some seconds, the men were replacing each other’s standing position every minute, so if he were to terminate any, the body and him must be out of there before the next guard arrives.

“Shadow walker, am in, I would need a passage way but let it be a shot at a time, the bodies need to disappear first before I am caught” he said when the transponder had been fixed in his ear.

“Roger that bro, best of luck” Fataveli replied back.

Xavier quickly slipped out of the water, the breathing mask and oxygen tank were disposed in a nearby bush, the lights in the compound were half lit to prevent outsiders from choppers to understand what went on in the compound but the main mansion was well lit. He brought out his short knife and rush towards the first guard he saw discreetly. As he got near the guard, the man suddenly turned to face him, then slumped to the ground as a bullet busted through his brains.

“Damn you Shadow Walker, I got that covered” Xavier cursed.

“My pleasure bro” Fataveli replied back.

The body was successfully embalmed in a low bush before the next guard came along whistling, Xavier crawled ahead and stopped short, the door ahead was only opened with a key card and finger scanner. He rolled back into the bush and spoke softly.

“Am in a fix, the door can’t be open without help from the guards” he told his partner.

“Well that is not my problem, this is where I got my precious name “shadow walker” from, I can enter anywhere as far as I have the blue print of that house, now follow my instructions and have a swell time, dis-obey it and die young, now hold your bag in front of you, your gun behind it, ready to shoot at my instructions, now stand up and start walking towards the back door” Fataveli instructed.
Quickly Xavier stood up, removed the gun from his bag and placed it between him and his bag, then he walked forward confidently. A single guard stood at the door smoking a pipe.
“What next?” He whispered.
“When he asks you who you are, tell him that the thunder that will fire him has not started high school yet” Fataveli replied laughing.
“What? What do you mean by that?” Xavier whispered back.
“Do it, when he asks you, tell him you are a comedian, that’s what we Nigerian use to catch fun” Fataveli replied back still laughing.
“You must be out of your …..”
“Hey, who are you?” The guard cut in, putting his weapon at Xavier.

“Uh, eh the thunder that will fire you ju.. Just, no, is about to enter high school” Xavier stammered.
“What? What do you mean by that?” The guard asked, looking around for any sign of thunder.
“Am a comedian bro” Xavier said, causing the man to burst into a fistful laughter.
“Shoot him now” the voice rang in his ears as he pumped two hot bullets into the man’s skull and dragged his body away.

“You see, I just saved your arse kid” shadow walker’s voice sounded back.
Xavier found a key card on the guard and opened the door, as he stepped into a long hall way, two guards stood discussing, he rolled over and shot both of them twice, and dragged them into an empty room.
Silently he walked through corridors, avoiding guards the best he could and killing those who would stand as a harm to him. Finally he got to a room and peeped in, six people gathered at a large dining table filled with food and drinks, three girls, a beautiful woman and two men, one which was his target were having their diner.

The large baked mutton meat at the centre of the table made him swallow two of more spittle.

He rushed to a room where a dead guard la!d and changed into his uniform, then he stood at the door, guarding, waiting and salivating.
“Hassan! Hassan!” Nouri Al-maliki called out, he was frightened a little but coordinated himself and walked into the dining room.

“Where’s Hassan?” Nouri asked.

“Uh, uh he went to the loo sir” Xavier answered feigning an iraqi intonation.

“Ok, walk this man out and tell Hassan to see me when he is back” he commanded.

The young man sitting with them stood up nervously and thanked Nouri for the food before walking out, Xavier had already studied the faces of all the occupants of the table, the first daughter was just fifteen, beautiful with her s*xy** eyes, steep mouth and pointed nose, a golden necklace lined her neck till it got to her firm b0s0m, he admired the ample sight which her beautiful dress could afford before noticing her younger sister, maybe ten years of age, her black hair was packed into a pony tail, she looked like her dad a lot, instead of eating she was scrapping her plate noisily with her fork, her kid sister who would have been seven or so had a large appetite and was gathering every food that her little hands could reach, she had chubby cheeks and even winked at Xavier when he came in. Nouri’s wife looked cheerful, a nice wimpy smell emitted from her body, she had long flowing hair and could easily tempt any man to nothingness.

Nouri was in his late forties, stress line lined his face, coupled with his grey hair, his mouth revelled his gap tooth. The young man with them was shaking a little, a flirting look between Nouri’s eldest daughter and him while going out showed that they had something between them, maybe he even came to ask for her hand in marriage. He walked the man out and came back to his position near the dining room.

Finally dinner was finished, maids came in and cleared the plates while Nouri informed his wife that he was going to his study, they kissed themselves goodnight and went to their various rooms. Nouri passed him without looking sideways and walked to another door opposite the dining room. Xavier waited a minute before walking to the door, as he slightly opened it, he walked in and shut it close.

Nouri Al-maliki was sitting around a large desk filled with all manners of books and documents, a laptop balanced on the stacks of papers, the office was decorated to Nouri’s taste, a great half curve mahogany table and a bear fur covered arm chair where Nouri sat, smoking a cuban cigar. The pictures of top military ranking officers and that of his family tree decorated the walls, the picture of his last daughter sat comfortably on his table. He raised his head and looked at the young man coming in.

“Yes what’s the problem?”
“Uh sorry to disturb you sir but I have a problem”
“What’s it?” Nouri replied.

Xavier feigned sorrow and slipped forward towards Nouri on his knees, his fingers placed on each other like he was about to beg, that caught Nouri unaware because he relaxed and waited for the news when Xavier sent a strong blow to his bowels. Before he could recover another elbow on his temple knocked him out. He woke up two minutes later, his head swimming, he could barely feel his feet and arm, well he was securely tied up, bound arms and feet to his chair which stood at the front of his table. He cleared his hazy eyes and focused on the young man in front of him, brandishing a knife and a gun, it was the strange guard that replaced Hassan.

“Hello Mr Nouri, am Xavier, an easy going man, we all know your room is sound proof so what ever goes on here, stays here. I like doing things simply, any question I ask, I would need a straight answer or you would pay dearly for it.

Am I understood?”

“Who are you? What do you want from me? Just forget about it because you would never get any answer you need” Nouri threatened.

“Is that’s so? Uh am scared” Xavier mocked at him, “Ok first things first, what’s your name?”
“Santa claus” Nouri replied, a punch to his nose busted through as blood spilled out.
“Wrong answer, I would start all over again, what’s your name?”
“Santa Claus bro” Nouri said again, this time a bullet ripped into his knee, he screamed out in pain and began jerking…

“Wrong answer, the next bullet goes to your man hood, now what’s your name?”
“Nouri Al-maliki, please stop it, I would answer your questions now” Nouri cried out, his nose fluids, tears and saliva dropped down carelessly.
“Correct answer, now my real question begins” Xavier replied, dragging another chair and sat down.
