Must Read: Sinister Affections

”Yes Danladi, How may I help you man?” Gen Okafor settled into his office chair. He had stopped whooping Trina to get to his office right away to meed Danladi. He was still angry and his emotions were plastered on his face. Something Danladi saw and pretended to pay no notice to it.
”Sir, Haven’t you heard?” Danladi locked his hands together and tried his best to act like a distressed person.

Gen. Okafor puffed annoyed at the fact that Danladi was about to place another difficulty on his desk. He had noticed on his way that every individual he had seen on the way all had worried looks on their face. He sensed something serious had happened and he was planning to find that out after his meeting with Danladi. He adjusted himself comfortably on his chair looking at Danladi like how an old man would watch a son who was being disobedient.
”Stop beating around the bush! What is it!?” Gen. Okafor was irritated at Danladi’s acting. If he wanted to say something, he should say it rather than being wussy.
”The soldiers transporting the ammunitions and arms to Kano to fight agains the terrorists have rebelled and have taken all arms into the forest sir”
”That’s serious. All thirty of them?” Gen Okafor’s eye widened at the new. Initially, he had thought it was something not too tough.
”No sir. Three soldiers were killed. Apparently, those soldiers didn’t agree to their conspiracy.

The soldiers at Kano are currently in hiding and flying on one wing since they are running low on ammunition. We have just three hundred and thirty two men barely keeping themselves alive.”
”Is the news just coming up? How come I’ve not heard since?”
”I just got a call from a comrade at the Borno right now”
”Very well” Gen Okafor reached for his and rung up the Field Marshal.
”Hello sir. It’s Genral Okafor. Yes. I’m fine sir. Have you heard about the latest development concerning the terrorist attacks at Kano?”
Danladi wished the Field Marshal would tell Gen. Okafor to stop beating around the bush.
”yes sir. We’ll handle it from here sir. Very well. If we need more help, we’ll inform the head quaters. Bye”
”So, we’ll be sending arms and ammunitions again to Kano. Ammunitions to be sent should be here tomorrow morning from Abuja. In the meantime, gather as much information as you can on the location of those rebels and get me Lieutenant Henry!” Gen. Okafor ordered.

Danladi sprung to his feet, made his salute and dashed out of the administrative building.

***************

Tony locked the door and hid the key under the flower vase by the door. He was prepared to hang out with friends outside the camp. Since he had successfuly helped his uncle, he decided it was time to have a little football game with his peers.

He picked up his boots along with his bagpack and made his way towards the camp gate. He noticed the atmosphere was tensed as no one pain any attention to him. On a normal day, some soldiers would have hailed him or smilled at him but they all had that serious look that made every part of him shiver.

He passed by some office blocks and saw a light skinned girl around his age walking about the building like it was no ones business. He faced his front as he passed. She caught sight of him also.
‘wait! A girl! In the camp?’ Tony wondered and stepped backwards to take a peep at her to be sure it was really a girl. It was! She was still there and was already walking straight towards his direction. He gaped at her beauty, she looked like Danladi… He snapped his jaws shut and started walking away to where he was going in the first place.
‘I’m too young to have thoughts like this’ He shook her off his head and walked even faster.

He felt someone pull him back. It was the girl. He knees knocked together and he found himself gaping at her.
”Hi, good afternoon. I’m lost, can you direct me to house 8A in the officers quaters?”
*****************

”Good afternoon sir, ma” Henry greeted Aunt Teni and her husband with a warm smilled. He still hadn’t decoded the frown on Aunt Teni’s face. Shindara greeted her aunt also but only her husband replied their greetings.
”Good afternoon Shindara.” The way Aunt Teni’s husband pronounced Shindara almost made Henry laugh out but he stifled the laughter with a pretence cough. It wasn’t really the man’s fault that he was nothern.

Shindara noticed that Aunt Teni’s husband was expecting her to introduce Henry. She pretended not to notice his stare and concentrated on her aunt.
”Aunti mi… Are you alright? You’ve not said a word since” Shindara asked trying to hug her aunt as a bribe. Aunt Teni reacted by shoving Shindara aside brutely.
”Didn’t you tell him?” Aunty teni asked with a stern serious voice.
”Tell me what?” Henry faced Shindara when he noticed Shindara was quiet.

Just then, Henry’s phone began ringing. He excused himself to pick the call as it was urgent.
”Iwo Omo buruku yii, o shi n tele omo okurin yii?” Aunt Teni yanked at Shindara’s ear and made sure she pulled it hard. Shindara yelped in pain but was grateful Henry was backing them as he conversed with whoever it was, hence, He didn’t see the way her Aunt pulled her ear. ”Just let him come back and see if I won’t pull it in front of him! Bad child, your mother will hear this”
Henry ran back to the group and pulled held Shindara’s hand.
”I’m so sorry but we have to go now. The General is expecting I and the recruits. It was nice meeting you sir!” Henry handshook Aunt Teni’s husband with a smile and dashed off pulling shindara along.
”what’s going on henry?” Shindara asked.

Everything had happened so fast that she couldn’t think of a meaning to attatch to it.
”Our Team has been selected to go after some rebel soldiers” Henry replied with beads of sweat forming on his forehead.
‘But, we are recruits!” Shindara protested.
”You mean recruits almost done with the training. You had better get ready for combat”
