Alexis Sanchez picks up muscle injury on international duty

Alexis Sanchez has suffered a light muscle strain, while on international duty with Chile.

The Arsenal forward, left training early on Tuesday to undergo medical tests for what was feared to be a torn calf muscle. But the medical team confirmed it was just a strain.

He will miss Chile’s 2018 World Cup qualifier against Colombia in Barranquilla on Thursday and will be evaluates before their next game against Uruguay on November 15.

“The medical staff of Chile’s national team would like to inform that Alexis Sanchez has a low grade muscle injury. He will remain in Santiago, under treatment and his participation for Chile against Uruguay will be evaluated,” a statement read.

Chile are fifth in the CONMEBOL World Cup qualifying table, level with Argentina on points and goal difference, although Chile have scored more goals.
