Why ' Fans Mi ' Music Video By ' Davido ' Should Be ' Banned ' From Being Aired In Nigeria

The influence entertainers continue to have on Nigerian youths while promoting negativity in their movies and music is becoming visible with the release of Davido’s song, Fans Mi featuring Meek Mill. Waploaded writes on why the song and any other that promotes violence and promiscuity should be banned.

With AK 47 on the table, and two almost naked women behind, and a box of cocaine playing it’s part on the song, one wonders why the song is titled Fans mi.

It was hailed as a welcomed idea when the news broke that multi award-winning music superstar, Davido premieres, perhaps, the biggest single of 2015 which has been very well-anticipated and features Maybach Music Group hip-hop/rap act from Philadelphia, Meek Mill with HKN’s lead act who recently graduated with second class honours in Music.

The jam is a switch-off from the Omo Baba Olowo’susual take on music. The song is a far cry from what many anticipated as it is a promotion of violence and promiscuity.

Who advised Davido to title the song Fans Mi? The song would have been titled,‘Seductive Violence’as it’s all about what Nigeria and the world are preaching against and also fighting at hand.

The Song
From the beginning of the song to when Mill took his verse, it wasn’t comprehensible as clash of culture could be noticed in the video. One can’t claim to be something when he is not and no matter how you want to portray it, you will always look like a confused idealist.

At this period when America and Nigeria in particular are fighting against gun peddling,
Davido’s release of the so-called Fans Mi which doesn’t even depict the title of the song is a lack of foresight from a guy who is well respected by music pundits and writers.

From the beginning, it was noise all over and clash of culture because Meek Mill’s countenance could tell ‘what the babble’ is this guy saying?

Sometimes when Nigerian artistes want to feature international acts, they miss-calculate.

This is what this song by Davido portrays. Those who are hailing the song as a hit should go back and listen to the lyrics whether it gives the fans any credit.

Nigerians are easily s£duced to follow anything they feel comes from a known face when persuaded.

The violence portrayed in the video and the supposed drug used might not mean anything to the artiste but does not speak well of a musician who has been seen as an example by the youths.

The portrayal of weapon which doesn’t even speak against the effect of it is a big minus to the artiste and those responsible for scripting of the video.

Sometimes, entertainers don’t know that people follow their ways of life, whether good or bad, and easily influence fans.

The title and lyrics of the song don’t even correspond with the video. The lyrics and video should be rejigged to portray the intended message.

Why Americans use weapons and drugs on their video is because 90 per cent of their lyrics promotes violence, thuggry and drugs which is why even the government are also keen of muting some of the words they air to the public because of the violence they portray.

Davido and other artistes should know that at this stage in Nigeria, any iota of negativity would affect it.

Speaking with an entertainment writer and public analyst, Muyiwa Ajose, he said Davido missed it this time. Ajose believes that he was in a rush to feature an American big act while forgetting that there are many things that could make or mar a personality.

“I don’t think that the guns and the cocaine used in the video is wrong, what’s wrong is the message it portrays. Not just Nigeria but the world does not need violent song now or ever.
What they should be preaching is peace. If you say the title of your song isFans Mi, why using gun in the video? Are you planning on killing your fans or forcing them to to take to drugs? If you want to hail your fans, it should be portrayed in a away that even the fans would appreciate the song. I promise that though the song made wave few days after its release, it won’t last long on the minds of the people,” he expressed.

Also, a fan, Joy Herbert said she loves many of his songs and could even sing them by heart. But she doesn’t see anything wrong with the song but the video. “For me, there is nothing wrong with the song but the video. The video is the only thing I have problem with because the gun and drugs were not portrayed in good light. Had it been he’s saying that guns and drugs are not good even though he used it to eat ‘semo’ later. The video was also shot haphazardly. I don’t know but I believe, maybe, they were just in a rush to do the video,” she stated.

Reacting to the topic, Mike Itodo insisted that the song should not be aired in Nigeria because it’s not what Nigerians want to see due to the volatile nature of the country.

“Sometimes I wonder what is wrong with our musicians; not just the musicians but all entertainers. While some are working hard to promote peace and also visit IDPs to show their support to the suffering they are going through, others are busy promoting same thing that is making the youths to take up arms because most of them don’t see it as wrong; they see it as hardness. That is why cultism (especially in schools) and kidnapping are rampant. This culture-sale should be frowned at because you can’t sing a song that talks about your fans and be portraying weapons and drugs for the same fans to see. Are you saying we should do like you too?” he asked.
