India's First Woman Uber Driver Found Dead, Police Suspects She Was Murdered
Uber's first female cab driver in India, Veerath Bharathi, has been found dead in her apartment in north Bengaluru yesterday. The 39-year-old lived alone in her home in Nagashettyhalli, The News Minute reported. Police are investigating the case and are awaiting a post-mortem report.
City police filed a case of suicide after Bharathi's landlord told them he found her hanging in her home. He also said she had informed him of her wanting to return to Andhra Pradesh. However, officials found no suicide note and said her house was unlocked.
"The body has been sent for post-mortem. We will get a clear picture of what exactly happened once we get the reports. We did not find any suicide note and there were also no signs of forced entry," TR Suresh, deputy commissioner of police, North, said.
