No link with N400m PDP election money— Gov Umahi

Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State said, yesterday, that he was not in any form of trouble with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, over the alleged diversion of N400 million allocated to Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, for last year’s presidential election.

The governor made the clarification in reaction to reports suggesting that he used his firms, Osborn La-Palm Royal Resort Ltd and Brass Engineering & Construction Nig. Ltd. to divert the N400 million and used the money to build hotels.

Umahi, who spoke through his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Emma Anya, said he had nothing to do with the companies, having relin-quished his interests in them before becoming governor.

In the statement entitled Umahi not in trouble and will never be, the governor made it clear that the information being bandied about by EFCCand the media against him was nothing new, but a rehash of what he called ‘stale’ news.

Anya said: “I am, therefore, ata loss on what they stand to gain by these publications. I state here once again that Governor Umahi established his business empire, including Osborn La Palm Royal Resort long before he became the deputy governor.

“He had, before serving as the state’s deputy governor, relinquished his interests in the companies he founded as required by law.”

However, EFCC said, weekend, it had questioned many suspects, including bank officials, who had madestatements linking the governor and his companies to the said money.
