Akpeyi to start in goal for Super Eagles against Algeria

Daniel Akpeyi will start in goal against Algeria on Saturday, Super Eagles Technical Adviser Gernot Rohr has confirmed.

There have been speculations, as to who will replace the injured Carl Ikeme, when Nigeria hosts the Desert Warriors.

Earlier on Friday, Rohr narrowed down his options to Akpeyi and Dele Alampasu, ruling out IfeanyiUbah FC’s Ikechukwu Ezenwa ().

He has now given a big hint that the Chippa United keeper will start.

“They have some injuries, we also have some injuries – Carl (Ikeme) our goalkeeper is not there, but Daniel (Akpeyi) is a good goalkeeper too,” Rohr said after the team’s final training on Friday evening in Uyo.

Akpeyi, who was called up as a late replacement for Ikeme ) also stood in for him in March against Egypt in Alexandria.
