Nigerian woman arrested in Vienna after newborn she dumped in toilet bin dies

A 27-year-old Nigerian woman has been arrested in Vienna, Austria, after her newborn baby she abandoned in a toilet bin at the airport, died.

According to Local Austria News, the yet-to-be named woman is being questioned by Austrian police following the death of the abandoned baby.

The child was reportedly discovered by a cleaner inside a plastic bag in the early hours of Thursday and she immediately called the emergency services.

Police spokesman, Raimund Schwaigerlehner, confirming the incident, weekend, said, “The baby was taken to hospital but died shortly afterwards due to a prolonged lack of oxygen.

“The child’s mother has been as a 27-year-old Nigerian woman, who had been in transit in Vienna.

“The woman was found bleeding in the waiting area where she was waiting for a connecting flight to Washington.

“Upon her arrest, she was also taken to the hospital where she has remained under medical observation.”
