South African Police Release Images of Senzo Meyiwa’s Alleged Killers
The South African police has released composite images of two men suspected of killing Bafana captain Senzo Meyiwa.
The 27-year-old goalkeeper was gunned down after an altercation with burglars that broke into the house of his pop star girlfriend, Kelly Khumalo last Sunday. Police launched a manhunt and earlier on today released the sketches that were recreated from eyewitness descriptions. A reward
of 250,000 rand ($23,000) has been offered for any information leading to the arrest of Meyiwa’s killer. Local media reports that Meyiwa’s family have also hired private investigators to conduct a parallel probe of the death.

The whole nation is mourning the passing of the national football hero. Radio and TV chat shows are clogged with callers expressing their shock and dismay. His shooting brings into sharp focus the wider issues of gun crime in South Africa, particularly so soon after the trial of athlete Oscar Pistorius, who says he shot dead his girlfriend by mistake, fearing there was an intruder in the house.
Meyiwa will be buried on Saturday in his home town in Durban.
