I will retire after 2018 World Cup – Rooney

England captain and record goal scorer, Wayne Rooney, said he would retire from international football after the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
Rooney who is also the captain of Manchester United spoke to the media after new England manager, Sam Allardyce, said he will be retained as captain.

Rooney told the BBC on Tuesday, “Come Russia I feel that will be the time to say goodbye to international football.”

The 30-year-old has scored 53 goals in 115 England appearances.

If the former Everton striker plays in Sunday’s World Cup qualifier in Slovakia, he will break David Beckham’s record for the most capped outfield England player.

He added, “Russia will be my last opportunity to do anything with England, so I’m going to try to enjoy these two years and hopefully, I can end my time with England on a high.”
