Rohr promises to make Nigeria great again

Speaking in Uyo yesterday, the German, whose first task with the Eagles is an inconsequential Gabon 2017 African Nations Cup qualifier against Tanzania on Saturday, said he came to Nigeria because he believed that the Eagles have the materials to rule African football.

He said he would leave others to assess his work, adding that the task at hand is to get the Eagles running again.“I am happy to be here. I am proud to be the coach of big players and we will give our best to succeed.

“It is difficult to say if I am the right man. Let other people say it. I have experience in African football and I have German mentality but to succeed in Africa you need the right discipline and that is why I think I am the right man.”
Rohr hinted that former Super Eagles captain, Vincent Enyeama, could return to the team, adding that he had held a chat with the Lille of France goalkeeper.“I know Enyeama. I called him. We spoke and I will meet him after this game. He is a very big player and I know we must have all the best players to have a chance against Zambia, Algeria and Cameroun.”

He acknowledged that Nigeria is blessed with good goalkeepers, adding that every one of them would get the chance to prove his worth.“Let’s wait for Carl Ikeme to come first. He had an injury and had to stay for special treatment at his club. I saw the other two goalkeepers yesterday and they were interesting. One of them played in the Olympic Games. It is very important to have a goalkeeper who is respected and experienced,” he said.

The German allayed fears that he would fall out with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) if his salaries were not paid on time, adding that the most important thing was for the parties to be on the same page.

He said: “I am a patient man. I worked in Niger and was not paid for about eight months but I worked. There is a contract and I do my work so it is not my problem where the money is coming from. “My problem for now is victory on Saturday and then the game against Zambia next month. If there is a contract I believe everybody will be honest and respect the contract.”
