Must Read: Love Diary

“I was framed. Who is here? Can you hear me? I am innocent. I don’t know about any drugs. I was framed by someone.” I have been shouting like this more than three hours now. They placed me inside a police cell in their police station. They called it a holding area, but to me, thatis sugar-coating words. I was placed inside a dark cell with two misfits. The two men were huge and fat. They appeared to be in their forties. I didn’t know what they committed. They have been snoring since I was dragged inside to join them.

I continued to shake the hinges of the railings until a policeman approached. He was of average height. His name tag read Sergeant Tshivenda.

“Young man, will you stop disturbing our peace?”

“Sir I am innocent.”

“Liar, you are from Nigeria, are you not?” He asked.

“Yes sir.”

His face appeared stern. “It’s so logical. You misfits only come here to do illegal business.

You Nigerians give Africa a bad name. If you make a sound again, I will make sure your suffering gets worse. Nonsense!” His voice was so deep it still lingered even after he was gone.

My mind has been playing movies of everything that has happened. It’s already 12 in the afternoon. Who is behind this? Who hated me so much that he wants to frame me?

What the hell is happening?

I wanted to call Samantha, but tell her what?

The whole lovely moment I just shared with her have now turned into a nightmare. I need to get a handle on the situation.

I brought out my cell phone and dialed the last person on earth I would even think of calling.

It rang four times before I heard the voice I hated so much, “Maigida, what have you gotten yourself into? Are you mad?” said Eddie.

“I can explain sir, I…”

“Don’t bullshit me. So, you came here to get jailed? This has already caused us a lot of damage. Our business partners here have started making excuses. They no longer want to do business with us.” Eddie was barking.

“Sir, I was framed.” I said it out loud.

Eddie was quiet for a while. “I don’t believe you are dealing in drugs, but what I don’t understand is who would have framed you?

You didn’t even want to come here. I was the one that included you in the team. Why will someone want to frame you?”

I slowed my breathing. If Eddie finds out that I lied to him about having a girl called Titi and played him to come here, that will put me into another big time trouble. How long till he finds out about Samantha and I? I pushed the whole thoughts out of my mind as I tried to focus on the problem at hand. Who framed me and what did I do to deserve this?

“I don’t know Sir. That’s why I need your help. They said they found the drugs in my hotel room. It’s not true. It’s absolute fabrication.” I said.

“What do you need my help for?”

“I need you to help clear my name and get to the bottom of this. Coordinate with the police there. I am innocent. Plsss.”

Eddie was silent.

“We are in the business of finding out information. Well, I will see what I can do.” He said. I was surprised. I thought he will reject the idea. The people you think you hate the most may turn out to be your saviour one day.

“Thank you Sir. I am so grateful.” I said as the call got disconnected.

I sat down on the hard floor as a wave of bittersweet memories washed over me.

Immediately, the Sergeant approached the cell. He was with Samantha. I quickly stood up “Not more than 10 minutes.” He ordered.

She appeared disheveled. Her eyes were puffy.

Oh!She has been crying. I was touched that both of us have been suffering together.

She took a big risk by coming here to see me.

If the public discovered that she had any link with someone accused of dealing in drugs, it will damage her image. She knew that she took a big risk but I was happy that she came.

“I didn’t do it. I am innocent.” I said the first thing on my mind.

She touched my hand and held it as tears quickly dropped out from her eyes.

“I know.”

I was surprised. Even if she trusts me, she can’t easily believe me.

“You know?”

“Honey I know why you were arrested.

Everything is all connected,” she said.

“What? You Know? Samantha, what the hell is going on here?” I asked. I was confused.

How the hell did she know?

“Why was I arrested? Who is behind this?”

“You were arrested because of me.” she said. Her words stopped me in my tracks.

It was like a cold water was poured all over me.

“Oh my God!” I said. I broke down. I felt my spirits were crushed.

We are victims of a terrible circumstance and someone is trying to tear us apart.
