Must Read: Cancer

Through out the 2nd semester, mama’s case was an unending story of pain and agony. Her pains were becoming unbearable.

Finally she had to go to the village when it was obvious she wasn’t gonna get better anytime soon. Luckily Tos had finished her exams and so she could go with her.

Immediately she got to the village, grandma swung into actions, she began patronising all the Alfa she knows in search of a cure.

From Alfa, to some traditional worshippers, goats were killed, feast were made to appease the so called gods whom she offended and cursed her with the diseases.

Well, it seems all this was working well, mama was recovering. Now she was able to seat and at least eat by herself. And she remained in the village. Dad always visit every weekend and when school was on holiday, Yinkus and Abimbola did pay her visit.

I was in Gotham city, my roomate, Dav had issues in school, so he had to leave. So the room was all mine. Next to my room was JK, she was a black lady with an average body. Her tooth kinda overlapped and I always use that o mock her.

Somewhere along the line we started running things, well, need to say she was good on bed, but she was never gonna part with her food or money easily. She made my stay in the lodge a ‘sexifaction’ if you know what that means.

Close to our Exam period I got a news from home that Yinkus had an accident and he lost his two front tooth. It was horrific, I was told he was trying to cross the road when an overtaking bike hit me, after the collision, he stood up and was running to the other side of the road with much speed, thank God for the people around who quickly held him, sat him down and poured water over his body. He was taking to an hospital, and the bike man, after receiving some slaps had to pay the bills.

Exam came and I did my best but alas, my GP was crying for help. The result was terrible, very terrible I mean, I couldn’t concentrate, everything around me seems falling apart, everyone around me seems to get into one problem or the other, I was lost, I was down, really down but not out yet.

After the session, I couldn’t go home cause there was no money, JK stayed back a little, we had mad fun at least that was a little pain relief.

JK eventually paid for my transport back home and I made a promise to visit her in Ibadan during the vacation.

During the break, I had to try get a job, it wasn’t easy, so I called one of my friend who had an IT letter from school and made photocopy. I applied to an insurance company at Casino, opposite Panti police station, I was told to resume the following monday, I was so happy.

Got to the company and I was told I will be paid #15k, wow that’s great news, or so I taught. I resumed, and it was a lovely experience.

Mama was still at the villa, but she usually go for her check up at Lasuth. On one of those occasions, she was asked to go get blood again, and as usual Lobel was the place. Taking of blood was a norm but this time, it got out of hand.

Mama had taken 4 pint of blood, and she was preparing to be discharged when blood started gushing out from the openings ( the opening were much by now) on her b0s0m. The intensity of the flow was very heavy and in two minutes, she had bled more than two pints of blood.

The doctor quickly did all he can, and wrote a note for us to go quickly to the emergency unit of Lasuth. Thank God pastor was around, so his car was very useful.

******************************************

With the speed of light we got to Lasuth and we were given directions to the emergency unit.

At the Emergency unit, I saw and experienced what I can never forget in my entire life.

The entrance of the unit was filled to its brim, different kind of sickness, blood spilling all around, everywhere was messy. Doctors came out and told that there is no space for anyone for now, that we all should wait till there is enough space.

Dad walked up to the doctor, showed him mama’s card on seeing that she’s a registered patient, he went in and brought a wheel chair for her to be taking in on. We pushed her in, and I was the only one allowed to go in with her, while on the wheel chair she was being attended to and I was amazed at how brilliant this doctors were.

Looking around I saw some 3 patient in critical condition brought in, they were allowed in because a man just died and his bed was empty, he was pushed out of the bed and was still on the floor until the mortuary attendant came to whisk his dead body away. Immediately, the bed was cleaned and they where 3 patient waiting to be treated on one bed. They the unimaginable happened**********************

The doctors accessed the 3, said the first man has little chances of surviving so he was left by the side, the second and third patient were accessed, and the doctors concluded that only the second man had high chances of surviving, so the other two men were left to die, and sure within two minutes they were dead.

I was shocked, but later I got to understand that there were limited space, limited hands and one should waste effort on thing with slim chances where there are others with higher chances. It was all about maximising the available resources (economics shey).

Well, I saw things I can’t speak of, there was this pretty young lady, she was all dressed up looking fly, well she was brought in and I was wondering what could be wrong with her, within a minute she was almost Unclad not minding me watching, the doctors dragged the curtain and three of them started working on her. Later I was told that she was hit by a car on the express and walked away without any injury. Unknowing to her, she had internal bleeding, 2hours later she was up in smoke
